Chris Benoit murdered his wife Nancy, then his son Daniel, then killed himself over the course of the weekend of June 22-24, 2007. Vince McMahon consciously manipulated the news of June 25, 2007, to produce a Raw tribute to a murderer, before immediately turning around and distancing WWE. In between those two factual poles is a lot of ambiguous timeline.
I hope Jason Powell — as well as other serious wrestling journalists, such as Dave Meltzer and Wade Keller — will start reporting aggressively on what is the real story here: the mysterious lost voicemail on Chris Benoit’s cell phone.
One blog reader’s response to our report on the lost voicemail messages from Chris Benoit’s cell phone account: “I would think that systems like voicemail are so redundant that it would seem almost impossible to lose a message.”
Highly Recommended Baltimore Sun Story on WWE Post-Benoit Friday, May 2nd, 2008 Congratulations to reporter Childs Walker on an excellent job here: http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/other/bal-sp.wrestling02may02,0,4992506.story
Yesterday I emailed Tom Regan, the WSB-TV, Channel 2/Atlanta reporter and weekend anchor who did a story Wednesday with some of the 23 messages left on Chris Benoit’s answering machine — which in turn were re-recorded by sheriff’s investigators at the crime scene on June 25, 2007.
