Scott Reid of the Orange County Register reported yesterday:

“USA Swimming, the sport’s national governing body, has initiated a disciplinary proceeding against longtime Orange County swim coach Bill Jewell following allegations of inappropriate behavior by Jewell toward underage female swimmers at the Fullerton Aquatics Sports Team and Golden West Swim Club…. Jewell, 71, faces a possible lifetime ban from the sport following a June 19 hearing.”

Reid has taken the lead on reporting allegations against Jewell at Golden West, which emerged in the lawsuit against Golden West head (and deposed Olympic coach) Mark Schubert by Dia Rianda.

Last week we posted the private investigator’s report that was  initiated by Schubert and Jewell against Sean Hutchison, head coach of USA Swimming’s professional and post-graduate training center in Fullerton, to confirm rumors that Hutchison was sleeping with one of his swimmers there. Hutchison resigned after this information was leaked to The Washington Post.

Dia Rianda has done so much for this sport that she should be given a Golden Goggle award!
