Author Irvin Muchnick is interviewed for a report Sunday on the pandemic of deaths in pro wrestling on L’Effet Papillon (“The Butterfly Effect”), a 60 Minutes-style news magazine program on France’s Canal + network.
L’Effet Papillon airs at noon May 25 and also can be seen on cable systems throughout Western Europe.
In addition to Muchnick, reporter Sabrina Van Tassel talks to Michael Benoit (father of World Wrestling Entertainment’s Chris Benoit, who murdered his wife and son before killing himself last summer in Georgia), former wrestler Marc Mero, and Wrestling Observer Newsletter publisher Dave Meltzer.
Muchnick is author of Wrestling Babylon: Piledriving Tales of Drugs, Sex, Death, and Scandal (ECW Press). He is co-author – with Steven Johnson, Heath McCoy, and Greg Oliver – of Benoit: Wrestling with the Horror That Destroyed a Family and Crippled a Sport, which is currently the No. 1 wrestling title at Amazon Canada. Muchnick is at work on the forthcoming Chris and Nancy: The True Story of the Benoit Murder-Suicide and Pro Wrestling’s Cocktail of Death.
