Everyone already knows that I think the April 30 piece on WSB-TV news (Channel 2 in Atlanta) was dumb – all hype, no real new information, didn’t even use or cite the intriguing November 2005 messages on the Benoit home answering machine from Eddie Guerrero.
But in relation to the scandal of the disappeared Chris Benoit cell phone voicemail, what’s important is whether the story was a plant, calculated to distract. I’m therefore trying to find out if WSB and reporter Tom Regan got special delivery of this afterthought to the open records from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
The log of people who request open records is itself an open record. I requested and received the log from Rick Lindsey, the attorney handling these queries for Sheriff Randall Johnson. It turns out that I am one of nine requesters. Another is Regan. (I’m not publishing the other seven names at this time; no free samples.)
I’m sure I got the first copy of the new CD with the answering machine audio, because I was nagging Detective Harper about a number of things and he caught the omission as a result of my nagging. The question is whether Regan and Channel 2 were fed the CD ahead of the others for a strategically empty “exclusive.”
Stay tuned for film at 11. Or, if I can’t come up with any video, I’ll at least try to have some audio.
