Yesterday we reported that “A.L.,” the former swimmer for Dick Shoulberg who is named in a horrifying abuse lawsuit against the Germantown Academy, is current University of Florida swimmer Alex Lebed.

Gators coach Gregg Troy did not answer our emails. Nor did the associate athletic director or athletic director. But after we kicked the query up to the top aides of university president W. Kent Fuchs, Florida issued a statement to us today:

“Whenever there is an allegation, the University reviews it and takes appropriate action if warranted. Where students are concerned, their University records are protected by state and federal confidentiality law.”

In the meantime, Coach Troy had forwarded my inquiry to a Philadelphia lawyer named George Bochetto, who represents “A.L.” Bochetto emailed me, “CEASE all further false stories about my client.”

Bochetto did not specify what might be false in our stories. Unfortunately, they are all true and based on a public document.
