George Gibney Hearing Today Dedicated to Victim Impact Testimony — Sentencing Set for October 12

At today’s hearing in Dublin’s Central Criminal Court, George Gibney’s sentence for sexual abuse of four girls 40 to 50 years ago was not yet handed down. Justice Mícheál P. O’Higgins set sentencing for October 12. Gibney’s barrister, Patrick Gageby, said there would be no appeal.

The hearing was devoted to the victim impact testimony of the four complainants. As Concussion Inc. readers know, the focus here has been on something ignored by the Irish media, on pain of the country’s censorious and illogical legal regime. That something is the corrupt 1994 Irish Supreme Court decision that originally sprang Gibney for more than three decades, and for several years also permanently shielded from accountability many others who were accused of abuse that went back a number of years. Gibney v. DPP was argued by the same Gageby, whose sister Susan Denham, coincidentally or otherwise, sat on the court at the time. Denham subsequently ascended to chief justice.

Well in advance of October 12, we’ll be rolling out individual examples of this disgraceful body of “Gibney-plus” cases. As they say, watch this space.
