We’ve been pretty hard today on Charlie King, the former assistant swimming coach under Greg Winslow at the University of Utah, who is now the head guy at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. But sources on the Utes insist that this is unfair to King — who, as one swimmer who was coached by both men put it, “like so many others, was a victim of Greg Winslow.”
In case this assertion needs any bona fides — King was the assistant coach whose eye got blackened by a Winslow punch during a drunken rage. See the timeline of former swimmer Austin Fiascone (http://muchnick.net/fiasconetimeline.pdf), whose complaints to the Utah administration set in motion the campus Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action investigation of Winslow.
So I don’t intend to bother King any more about the incident with the swimmer in the extreme breath drill in Mexico. Still, that was one sorry-ass email from the chancellor of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
