The core Olympics coverage starts today on NBC.
In my article from the Olympic Swimming Trials – finally published this week at MomsTEAM.com on the rebound from dithering by Yahoo Sports – I called out USA Swimming’s corporate sponsors and such see-no-evil newspaper panderers as the Omaha World-Herald. Cut from the story, for space, were fruitless appeals for comment from entities like the Omaha Sports Commission and the local Chamber of Commerce.
As for NBC, here’s the passage I now rescue from the cutting-room floor:
As this article was being published, NBC had not responded to repeated requests to disclose whether Olympic Trials coverage anchor Bob Costas or commentators Dan Hicks and Rowdy Gaines would be making any reference whatsoever to the child rape outrage in swimming. Three different NBC Universal executives also had not acknowledged redundant messages asking how much the network paid USA Swimming for broadcast rights.
