Bob Costas on the Background of His Interview in the Documentary ‘Head Games’

In response to my query, Bob Costas said:

“I was aware, of course, of  Alan Schwarz’s writing on the subject for The New York Times.  Alan had just been on my program about the state of the NFL  on the NBC Sports Network, and that same weekend in Indianapolis, prior to the Super Bowl, he asked me if I would be interviewed for this documentary.  I was unaware of the documentary’s funding, and did not ask.  Alan’s standing with The New York Times and his credibility on this issue, were sufficient for me, and it was on this basis that I did the interview.”
