I asked federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Dr. Thomas Frieden, Senator Robert Menendez, and Congressman Bill Pascrell if the newly announced panel of experts who will write national youth athlete concussion guidelines would include anyone affiliated with the National Football League or otherwise closely tied to industry.

Gail Hayes, the CDC Injury Center’s senior press officer, gave me this statement:

“Our goal for this project is to put together a very multi-disciplinary group of experts and organizations.  We are very early on in this process, so at this point, we have not made any decisions on the make-up of the panel/committee.  I have shared your concerns with our scientists.”
