Dustin Perry is part of Chapter 12, “Where the Bad Guys Go,” in the book UNDERWATER: The Greed-Soaked Tale of Sexual Abuse in USA Swimming and Around the Globe.

Five months after a detective in Pocatello, Idaho, reached out to Concussion Inc. for information about heinous abuser swim coach Dustin Perry — banned 12 years ago by USA Swimming — the police department insists that its investigation of Perry continues.

In an email last week, the executive assistant to police chief Roger Schei said there would be no comment on the nature of the police work “due to the investigation being active/ongoing.”

It seems clear that Perry is, or until very recently was, residing in Pocatello and that there has been some level of local stirring and discontent over his presence. The Pocatello city government has confirmed that Perry was employed in its human resources department, but no longer is.

Public records show that in 2024 there was an administrative complaint about Perry’s possible presence at the Ross Park recreation center.

Accessible police records, of course, do not include anything pertaining to the current investigation. Those historical records that are public include:

  • Perry’s own report in 2013, when he was coach of the Tiger Aquatic Club, of vandalism — in the form of broken windows — at the team facility.
  • In 2019, a disturbance at the Ridge Crest apartment complex on the Idaho State University campus, in which Perry was one of two persons making competing claims. The investigating officer’s narrative stated that he “advised both parties that there was insufficient proof for assault but explained that both parties could be cited for disorderly contact. I then cleared without incident.”
  • Finally, in 2023, an investigation of a claim that Perry was one of two perpetratrators of an assault at Idaho State. The Pocatello police were brought in to assist the campus police. The complaint was filed  on April 16 and closed the next day without charges.
