The major Irish news media have been cautious and cagey in covering the full dimensions of the George Gibney story — see my upcoming commentary about that. But when it comes to getting the scoops on Gibney’s extradition arrest and next legal steps, they are ahead of Concussion Inc.

Multiple Irish outlets are reporting that Gibney is headed home tonight on a plane with officers from the Extradition Unit of An Garda Síochána, the national police agency. After he arrives, he will be formally charged in a Dublin court with 78 counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape.

Once charged, notes Paul Reynolds, crime reporter for Ireland’s RTÉ network, “he will also be legally entitled to anonymity and cannot be identified or named as an accused unless he is convicted.”

Concussion Inc., of course, is not so constrained.
