Readers of this blog know that a few weeks ago I ripped on Andrea Adelson and the Orlando Sentinel for what I thought was shallow, Chamber of Commerce coverage of WrestleMania 24. Now I would like to apologize. The body of Andrea’s recent series of articles adds up to the most thorough and thoughtful sustained coverage of pro wrestling ever seen in a major newspaper.

Three days ago World Wrestling Entertainment’s vice president of corporate communications, Gary Davis, responded to my query about WWE security chief Dennis Fagan’s call to 911 for a welfare check on Chris Benoit’s home.

On Monday I talked with Detective Ethon Harper of the Fayette County, Georgia, Sheriff’s Office.

“I run security for World Wrestling,” Dennis Fagan says at the beginning of the recording of his call to Fayette County 911 on June 25, 2007 – the call that prompted the discovery of the dead bodies of Chris, Nancy, and Daniel Benoit.

Back on June 25, 2007, Michael Benoit couldn’t have cared less about the exact timelines for the determination that his son, the famous pro wrestler Chris Benoit, had murdered his wife Nancy and their 7-year-old son Daniel before killing himself, all over the course of a weekend at their gated mansion outside Atlanta, Georgia.

So even though Chavo Guerrero has chosen not to return my messages, his statements to Detective Ethon Harper add up to an endorsement of the Daily News timeline. Chavo is in a terribly awkward position, but even in silence he gives us one more reason to wonder just what that WWE timeline was all about.
