In the first known public statement on the matter by one of the 20 women in the United States Senate, California’s Dianne Feinstein yesterday told Concussion Inc. that she has an active interest in the federal investigations of USA Swimming sexual abuse that were initiated by Congressman George Miller, ranking Democrat on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

In an email yesterday, Senator Feinstein said her office “contacted Congressman Miller’s Committee staff to learn more about the Committee’s investigation into this matter.  Members of my staff have also participated in a briefing by the Government Accountability Office, which,  at the request of Congressman Miller, opened an investigation into the response of sports organizations to allegations of sexual abuse committed against child athletes. I look forward to reviewing the findings of the investigation when they become available.”

In addition to the 20 senators, 80 female U.S. Representatives will be members of the 114th Congress when they are sworn in next January. Some analysts, including here, believe they will be key to carrying forward the work on amateur sports abuse by the retiring Congressman Miller.
