Last Thursday I reported that Richard Shoulberg’s deposition in the Jancy Thompson sex-abuse suit against USA Swimming would take place tomorrow. I’m now told that Shoulberg has had his testimony postponed until October.

Shoulberg is president of the American Swimming Coaches Association and the aquatics director of the Germantown Academy near Philadelphia. Neither Shoulberg nor the head of school at Germantown, James Connor, has responded to email messages or follow-ups from Concussion Inc.

Shoulberg protege and gold-medal swimmer David Berkoff — now a closemouthed vice president of USA Swimming, after running for the board as a sex-abuse whistleblower — is in hiding, too. Last month, on the discussion board of the website swimswam.com, Berkoff called an anonymous poster a coward and defended the current USA Swimming regime. But he won’t return the messages of a journalist … me … who has been writing openly and persistently on this story for the last half-year.

Once again, here is what Berkoff said in a 2010 email I acquired and published last week:

“Denying knowledge of Rick Curl, Mitch Ivey and others banging their swimmers! It’s a flat out lie. They knew about it because we (coaches and athletes) were all talking about it in the late 1980′s and early 1990′s…. I was told Rick Curl was molesting Kelly Davies for years starting when she was 12 by some of the Texas guys….”

Dick, Dave — Give me a tinkle.
