Boston’s Sports Legacy Institute, the “concussion awareness” advocacy group of Chris Nowinski and Dr. Robert Cantu, is sending around a news release headlined “‘Hit Count’ Proposal Receives Widespread Support.”

OK. All’s fair in hype and war. But when you go down to the sub-headline, you see that the first item is indeed a legitimate third-party endorsement of the SLI White Paper released two weeks ago today. The second item, however, turns out to be just a Cantu quote from a news article — in other words, an endorsement of himself.

Anyone can play that game. Cantu and Nowinski would have more credibility if they cranked down the PR machine and answered a few tough questions about their instantly anointed “bold initiative.”
