Dustin Fink of the Concussion Blog today has the kind of detective work you’ll read nowhere else on the mysterious – but undoubtedly hoped to be new-and-improved, if not revolutionary – helmet of the Indianapolis Colts several-times-concussed Austin Collie. See http://theconcussionblog.com/2011/08/12/austin-collie-4-0/.

This reader alone is responsible for my takeaway from Fink’s intriguing article – which is that the almost science-fiction evolution of helmet technology is something for the pros to fetishize, not the rest of us. We should not be making the millions of kids in this country who are playing tackle football before their time the guinea pigs of this type of research.

Where are our political leaders when it is really a situation calling for “just say no”?
