World Wrestling Entertainment has announced the suspension of ten wrestlers for violations of its “wellness policy” after the district attorney in Albany, New York, produced information that they were on the client list of Signature Pharmacy, an Internet trafficker of steroids and human growth hormone.
Sports Illustrated, at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/more/08/30/wrestlers/index.html, names the 14 current and former wrestlers who were clients of Signature Pharmacy, and lists what drugs they received. Among them are some of WWE’s biggest stars, including Ken “Mr. Kennedy” Anderson, the most vociferous and incoherent defender of his WWE in recent media interviews.
The credibility of the wellness policy is shot. The House Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection Subcommittee — one of two House committees investigating steroid abuse in pro wrestling — announced that it expects hearings on this issue at the end of September.
