Irvin Muchnick, author of WRESTLING BABYLON: Piledriving Tales of Drugs, Sex, Death, and Scandal, is quoted extensively (“and accurately,” he affirms) in the centerfold package of the new (July 23) issue of the Globe supermarket tabloid.
The article is blurbed with the cover line, “EXPOSED! WRESTLING’S DEADLY SECRETS; PLUS! Why 70 pro stars died young.”
Commenting on the double-murder-suicide of wrestling star Chris Benoit, Muchnick says, “The wrestling industry has had an appointment with this kind of tragedy for years,” because of widespread abuse of steroids, plus “all the money these guys make,” giving them access to other drugs. He calls World Wrestling Entertainment “an enabler in this cocktail of death,” and WWE drug-testing a “so-called ‘wellness policy'” and “a joke.”
