Thank you to writer-comedian Rebecca Delgado-Smith and everyone on her quirky podcast “The Alarmist,” for having me this week as their “guest expert” pontificating on the case of WWE star Chris Benoit, who infamously murdered his wife Nancy and their seven-year-old son Daniel, then took his own life, over the course of a brutal June 2007 weekend at their home outside Atlanta.

The premise of “The Alarmist” is, “Who is to blame for history’s greatest tragedies?” This Tuesday, Rebecca and crew reflected on Benoit. Two days later, they did their takeout with me. You can listen to the episode here (or wherever you listen to podcasts):

I want to note quickly that I misspoke in two places where I said the WWE pay-per-view show Vengeance, which Benoit of course missed, took place in Corpus Christi, Texas. The PPV was in Houston on Sunday night. Corpus Christi was where WWE did their cynical tribute to Benoit on the Monday night Raw broadcast, at a time when Vince McMahon knew full well that he would soon be pivoting to the revelation that Benoit was the perpetrator and not a victim, and announcing that Benoit would never again be mentioned.

The third and “Ultimate Historical Edition” of my 2009 book CHRIS & NANCY: The True Story of the Benoit Murder-Suicide and Pro Wrestling’s Cocktail of Death was published in 2020 and is still available — from such sources as Amazon or directly from me. You can send inquiries to info@muchnick.net.
