The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and the First Amendment Coalition have filed an amicus curiae, or “friend of the court,” brief in response to the appeal to a California appellate court by the losing side in the California Public Records Act caseMuchnick v. UC Regents.

The lower Superior Court had ruled Irvin Muchnick the prevailing party on the basis of having catalyzed the production of more than 700 pages of previously withheld university documents relating to the cover-up of the circumstances of the 2014 conditioning drill death of UC Berkeley football player Ted Agu.

Excerpts and a link to the full brief will be published here shortly.
