January 7, 2010In the coverage of Senator Chris Dodd’s withdrawal from his race for reelection, I have yet to spot mention of where that leaves Connecticut’s ex-senator and governor, Lowell Weicker, a member of the World Wrestling Entertainment board of directors, who had endorsed Dodd.
Weicker has been a maverick Republican-Independent over the years. Despite his ties to Linda and Vince McMahon, Weicker remained loyal to Dodd on principle, and because Weicker is a long-time advocate of health-care reform.
Weicker’s son, Lowell “Trey” Weicker III, donated $100 to Linda McMahon’s campaign — the maximum outside contribution that the self-funded one is taking.
