Penn State University president Eric Barton today told Concussion Inc. that the university would not discuss the circumstances surrounding the dismissal of an assistant swimming coach in 2010, more than a year before the Jerry Sandusky molestation scandal broke.

“Any personnel matters are considered confidential and we do not comment on them,” Barton spokeswoman Lisa Powers said in an email.

Yesterday we reported that King served a year on the staff of then head swimming coach John Hargis before Hargis axed him upon learning that Barton was sleeping with one of his swimmers.

In his native Australia, King is under investigation by the national swimming authority for multiple sexual abuse allegations and falsifying his résumé.

How does the King matter affect the (so far extremely weak) probe by Congressional Democrats of USA Swimming abuses and cover-ups? In the next post, we’ll count the ways.
