Last week I settled my public records dispute with the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene when the state decided, after all, to give me a complete, unredacted copy of Meadowbrook Aquatic Center’s October 31, 2012, incident report in the drowning death of 14-year-old Louis Lowenthal following a North Baltimore Aquatic Club practice three days earlier.<\/p>\n

Though my Twitter feed shows that I reported the release of the full document on June 14, the corresponding post that day here at Concussion Inc. seems to have disappeared for unknown reasons. So let me again point everyone to the document: http:\/\/muchnick.net\/unredactedlowenthalreport.pdf<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I also want to thank the Health Department and the Maryland attorney general’s office for doing the right thing. Above all, let me express my deep appreciation of the able pro bono efforts of my attorney in this matter: Patrick Kabat of the New York office of Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz.<\/p>\n

In unexpurgated form, the incident report raises serious new questions about Meadowbrook’s lifeguard coverage at the time of the Lowenthal tragedy and about the faithfulness of the pool’s report to public authorities. I’ll be discussing those points here shortly.<\/p>\n
