The University of Utah is still clearing its throat in the now month-old scandal of abusive swim coach Greg Winslow, and how complaints about him to athletic director Chris Hill got ignored.<\/p>\n

“President David Pershing announced today that the independent review examining allegations made against the University of Utah’s swimming and diving program has commenced,” a university news release today said. “The members of the review team will report their findings directly to a subcommittee of the University’s Board of Trustees headed by Vice Chair Michele Mattsson.”<\/p>\n

The trustees also “have retained an additional third-party expert to augment the independent review. John T. Nielsen, a former prosecutor and Utah commissioner of public safety, will join attorneys Michael Glazier and Alan Sullivan.”<\/p>\n

The review “is proceeding expeditiously,” according to Utah.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is due to make a decision any day on the Arizona State University police recommendation of two felony charges of sexual abuse of a minor by Winslow when he was on the ASU staff and headed the campus-based youth club Sun Devil Aquatics. The accuser, who also later would swim for Winslow at Utah for one year, says the abuse started when she was 15.<\/p>\n
