Tim Joyce, my fellow investigative journalist, has a guest article upcoming here later today on allegations by a former swimmer of her sexual molestation at the hands of a coach at Michael Phelps’ North Baltimore Aquatic Club (NBAC).<\/p>\n

As previously related, Joyce was reporting for WBAL Radio in Baltimore before he was terminated without explanation and his entire archive of stories on the national swimming sex abuse scandals and cover-ups got ozoned. Tim has rescued those articles from the darkness at his own new site, http:\/\/timothyjoyce.wordpress.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I’m publishing the new Joyce piece for two reasons — the obvious one being that his continued reporting on this subject is valuable. The other reason is that it helps us refocus on the background of the letter USA Swimming claims it sent to the Baltimore County police after receiving an anonymous complaint about a coach in 2010. I have identified that coach as Hall of Famer Murray Stephens, but I was slightly off about the timing of his ouster from NBAC, which he founded. Stephens left NBAC in the fall of 2011, after the same victim pursued the same allegations with the local club.<\/p>\n

In addition, this blog will have more shortly on another sex abuse incident at NBAC, which happened in the current calendar year.<\/p>\n

I also will have more, when the autopsy report is released, on the October death of 14-year-old NBAC swimmer Louis Lowenthal at the team’s Meadowbrook Aquatic Center practice facility. It is an understatement to say that Baltimore’s Michael Phelps fairy tale needs a reality check.<\/p>\n
