In my Beyond Chron column published earlier today<\/a>, I reported that the National Football League gave the CDC Foundation $150,000 for the “Heads Up” program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The NFL is the only private donor in the history of the program, which CDC had been self-funding at around $200,000 a year.<\/p>\n

I raise the question of whether this information fatally compromises the CDC plan to empanel experts and design national school sports concussion guidelines, at the prodding of New Jersey’s Senator Robert Menendez and Representative Bill Pascrell.<\/p>\n

I posed the question directly to Senator Menendez and Congressman Pascrell’s offices. Here are their responses:<\/p>\n

I am pleased to note, however, that at least neither Menendez nor Pascrell has made the lists of recipients of campaign contributions from the NFL’s political action committee, the Gridiron PAC.
