Earlier this week Concussion Inc. reported<\/a> the U.S. government’s release of additional redacted documents in our Freedom of Information Act lawsuit in federal court for more of the immigration file of rapist former Irish Olympic swim coach George Gibney. We also analyzed one bombshell new document<\/a>, which shows that Gibney attached to his 1992 visa application a letter offering him a job as a swimming coach here.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tomorrow, in London’s<\/span>Sunday Times<\/span><\/i>, an article by Justine McCarthy has the second key revelation from the new Gibney Papers. The beginning of the story is below. \n<\/strong><\/strong>GARDAI gave a certificate of character to George Gibney, the former Irish national swim coach accused of raping young swimmers, to support his application for an American visa.<\/b>
\n<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

Documents released under the Freedom of Information Act by the US Department of Homeland Security reveal that the certificate was issued on January 20, 1992. This was less than six months before the commencement of a garda investigation into allegations that Gibney sexually abused several underage swimmers.<\/b><\/p>\n

Gibney has been living in America since 1994, after avoiding prosecution on 27 charges brought against him in June 1993 of indecent assault and unlawful carnal knowledge of swimmers aged under 15.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Supreme Court ruled in 1994 that the alleged incidents, dating from 1964, were too old for Gibney to adequately defend himself.<\/b><\/p>\n
