Tantalizing new information provided to me Tuesday by Fayette County law enforcement authorities does something that hasn’t happened in a while in my review of their investigation: it tilts the evidence more toward supporting certain aspects of World Wrestling Entertainment’s version of the events of Sunday, June 24, 2007, the day Chris Benoit killed himself.

Much of the discussion about Chris Benoit, in my view, is misguided in that it’s demanding that people take sides on an explanation. Drugs? Concussions? The punishing travel and mental stress? Independent domestic issues? Few of life’s mysteries can be clarified by a single magic bullet.

Last night Fox5 News in Atlanta reported that steroids, human growth hormone, and syringes were found in the attic of an area home formerly owned by an as-yet-unnamed World Wrestling Entertainment performer.

Someone with a lot more knowledge than I about the inner workings of the house of intrigue that is World Wrestling Entertainment had this reaction: “The combination of the denial and running you down shows the campaign is likely coming direct from DeMarco, and that they have no defense. DeMarco is the type — clumsy in covering his tracks.”
