Paul Newberry of the Associated Press is reporting that University of Georgia men’s and women’s swimming coach Jack Bauerle – who coached the women’s team at the 2008 Olympics – has been fined $5,000 by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and had his existing suspension extended through April 2015, for rules violations involving the academic record of his swimmer Chase Kalisz.

We wrote about this situation starting 11 months ago, in the above links. Our interest was piqued by the fact that Kalisz, a one-time training partner of Michael Phelps, is part of a powerful and randy clan at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. Chase’s younger brother swims there and their mother, Cathy, is on the board of Maryland Swimming.
