A couple of things to keep in mind as USA Swimming officials, spinning like a top, release their own report on their joke of a Safe Sport program, which they hope will confuse the public enough to head off investigations by Congressman George Miller and others.
First, as we noted earlier today,. the organization didn’t even give its own board of directors a head start on Victor Vieth’s “independent review” at yesterday’s meeting in Colorado Springs. Instead, Vieth gave a platitudinous PowerPoint presentation on the awfulness of sexual abuse and on the mixed bag of USA Swimming’s efforts to combat it. The directors will be getting their copies of the actual report on email, according to sources.
Second, we’re told, the news conference at which CEO Chuck Wielgus will announce publication of the Vieth white paper is invitation-only. A handful of perceived friendly outlets have been asked to attend.
