The Orange County Register picked up the story of celebrated U.S. Olympic swim coach Mark Schubert, who helped plant a private eye on the trail of coach Sean Hutchison and swimmer Ariana Kukors, then leaked the information about the Hutchison-Kukors relationship to the Washington Post. See “Schubert hired investigator to watch rival coach,” http://www.ocregister.com/sports/schubert-409235-jewell-swimming.html.

The new tidbit here is the line, “Schubert’s wife works for a private investigation firm.”

The Register‘s Scott Reid is one of the few journalists in the country, besides Tim Joyce and myself, following sex abuse in swimming. (The Post covers the topic as it does Beltway politics: the cloakroom antics of megalomaniacs.) Last year Reid broke the story of Mission Viejo Nadadores coach Ad’m Dusenbury’s unwritten employment perks.
