John Leonard, long-time executive director of the American Swimming Coaches Association, is complaining that I sandbagged him yesterday in our exchange on why ASCA doesn’t publish a list of sex-abusing banned coaches to supplement that of USA Swimming.
Nonsense. And if Leonard has anything to add to his ridiculous statement that ASCA is not “an organization that deals directly with children,” I’ll be glad to publish that, too.
Also: If Leonard answered my questions “directly, simply, and completely,” as he complained to me in a post-publication email, then what is his problem with having those words exposed to the light of day?
Leonard is advised to scratch this event and move on to the problem of eradicating systemic coach sex abuse of girl swimmers – an issue on which ASCA has, to put it extremely generously, lagged.
